Position Purpose

  • Responsibility of an Engineer II is to provide engineering analysis related to oil & gas industry with focus on facilities and pipelines in order to evaluate their structural integrity and reliability and determine if they meet regulation standards. Extensive field engineering work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiate, execute, and close out projects within time and budget.
  • Perform numerical and analytical stress analyses for pipeline and components.
  • Perform finiteness-for-service, failure investigation, stress analysis, statistical computations to validate measurements, review and analyze in-line inspection data and other pipeline related analyses under the supervision of senior technical staff.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations under direction of supervisor or other senior technical staff.
  • Implement company guidelines for initiating projects, monitoring of budgets, and tracking of invoices.
  • Travel to client sites as required to support project execution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of pipeline integrity and issues that affect pipeline serviceability
  • Familiarity with and experience in use of engineering software packages (ANSYS, ABAQUS, MathCad, and similar)
  • Familiarity with statistical methodologies and their practical application in engineering
  • Knowledge of Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 192 and 195, as well as industry codes and standards such ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, ASME B31.8S, API 579, API 1160, API 1163, API 1176, and BS 7910
  • Familiarity with inline inspection technologies and field NDE techniques
  • Ability to work on several assignments and projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to lead, work, and cooperate in a team environment
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite of products
  • Firmly adhere to the values and ethics of Kiefner and Applus. Exhibit honesty, discretion, and sound judgment.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Metallurgical engineering or other science disciplines involving applied analytics.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience or 5+ years of facility or pipeline field experience performing integrity assessments.
  • Experience of numerical analysis.
  • Knowledge of, and applied experience in, pipeline failure modes and fatigue.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Certificates and Licenses Required

  • A P.E. license or the ability to obtain one in 2 years is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work inside an office environment, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Occasional visits to field sites will require employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and working environments.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • Ability to travel when required, nationally, up to 80% and for a week at the time.
